Carlos Taibo (http://www.carlostaibo.com/libros/) is a major reference in the study of protest in Spain, which peaked in the 15-M campaign. He has written some books where you can find data and more sources.
I would also suggest European Values Survey http://www.europeanvaluesstudy.eu/ and European Social Survey http://www.europeansocialsurvey.org/ . Their databases are focused only on European states, which may help in narrowing the data.
Also, another useful source is Freedom House, especially the Nations in Transit study.
For example, the protest movements in Romania in the last 5 years have pretty much increased, as people became more aware of enviromental issues, etc., which also increased the articles on the subject:
