I discovered that many authors include the name of the software they used in their methodology while others do not.
I want to know your thoughts, if it is necessary for one to mention the name of the statistical software (package) in an academic report (thesis, project, journal paper etc) used in running the analysis?
Please, if possible support your answer with a reasons.

I agree with the message above! In addition to that, especially for R packages and free softwares, it is always nice to mention the authors possibly with a citation, if that's available! This way the author(s) will be acknowledged too. Beside the obvious intent of providing enough info for repeatability, you also acknowledge the work of the people allowing you to do your work,which is fair and ethical..

Your paper must provide enough information that your work could be repeated. The particular details of your statistical analysis, especially the specifics of any software packages, needs to be carefully described. When writing your Materials and Methods describe the analysis meticulously. Editors and referees will certainly read your text with an eye for repeatability.

I don't mention if it is merely Excel, but I would mention Statcato, JASP, JAMOVI, or a specific r package. If I use a specialized website (e.g., VassarStats) I'll mention that. My main reason is to provide the reader exposure to new methdods and tools as well as the data of my article.
I think beside basic software, it is always good to mention the name of software that we used. I found majority of researchers used.

It is mandatory. Ideal is to specify the authors when is possible (R software).
Both software name and version id is needed, including all details on the analysis, values of input parameters etc. Sharing your own coding is becoming more-less mandatory now for a good reason - research ethics.
From a point of research ethics, it would be better to mention what program you have used.
I agree with the idea of research ethics, It is also better to know what you use a method and additional information for better understanding the research.
It appears that some useful responses have been provided already. In case you are looking for one more insight, some of the variance may come down to the methodological approach, whether a more qualitative or quantitative. In both instances though the inclusion of specificity of the application used and reference when available would provide others with the most insight in order to attempt to replicate, to adapt, or to understand your research.
I agree with the posted argumentation, authors to nominate the software type and its version id, since it neither common knowledge among all readers/researchers the evolutionary technical specifications supported beyond the preceding versions, nor which statistical tools could be the most appropriate for future analysis at similar research settings worldwide. Therefore , full development/presentation of analytical tools and statistics background are grounded not only on "research ethics", but they are predominately issues of systematizing research while sharing existing knowledge, as well as offering new challenges of advancing fresh knowledge.
