A stability control system is meanwhile compusory in any passenger car. This system requires sensing lateral acc., yaw rate and steering angle as well as brake system pressure. A gyroscope is not explicitely required.
Not necessarily required to run the vehicle (Electric nor combustion), but needed if indeed you want to install a stability control system, also the gyroscope (which can measure the yaw rate of the vehicle if placed to measure the rotation velocity of the car around the vertical axis). What kind of electric vehicle are you thinking of?
most important sensors are accelerometer and gyroscope. they are desperatly needed in electric vehicles. / Battery electric vehiclefurther the sensors needed in electric vechiles. MEMS realisations are widely avalable by at least ten suppliers
In every car complete active safety systems are based on accelerometers, starting on crash sensors ending on traction contol systems. Gyroscope... well in regular passenger car could be not considered, but for some applications, special vehicles or hevy duty is recomended.
Air suspension in case of passenger cars is based on four axle high sensors same like the similar application xenon headlight leveling. Could be so that in some top level cars gyro is used but as far as I'm involved there is no separate gyro.
