I'm looking for iron-reducing bacteria. actually this bacteria usually work in anaerobic environment. does anybody know if I can find aerobic bacteria that will be able to reduce Fe+++ to Fe++ (in the presence of oxygen) ?
You can grow some Iron reducing bacteria under micro aerophilic conditions e.g., in anaerobic prepared media without the addition of a reducing agent to remove the remaining oxygen.
You likely won't find iron reducing bacteria in aerobic environment samples because they are out-competed by aerobic bacteria. If they are facultative they will switch to aerobic metabolism in the presence of oxygen because it is more energy efficient.
