A plateau in current during linear sweep voltammetry can be inferred to the diffusion controlled reaction. The fact is that linear sweep voltammetry of a light absorbing material (in electrodes for water splitting) under the photoelectrochemical experimental condition is completely different under light and dark conditions. Wherein, the LSV under dark condition shows the normal features due to the reduction of the oxide material or any other (sweeping in reverse direction). On the contrary, the current reaches a plateau (although many folds higher current than dark condition) during LSV under the light. What is the reason behind the plateau formation under the light condition?

Note: In dark condition, the reduction takes place due to the biasing potential. Under light, the degradation is caused by the photogenerated excitons in aqueous media (biasing is also there).
