In general, there are four methods for funding your research:
1. The foundations. Many foundations exist only to assist researchers in making their ideas a reality.
2. Private Companies.
3. The government.
4. Your Business Network.

As we know, many NGOs in developing countries are getting funds from different funding bodies. I thought, there will be some opportunities for uni teachers/ researchers as well.
