Integrated farming systems is the norm in traditional production systems. These systems have a lot of challenges including the effect of climate change. Agriculture needs to be dynamic and integrated approach is the way forward. In addition, there is need for innovations in conservation agriculture, resource management and access to markets for producers. Different stakeholders are doing some good work but it is necessary to harmonise efforts through collaboration and exchange of resources.
Numerous demonstrations under TSP and other projects have shown enhancement in farm income for rain-fed farmers through IFS. However, have no idea regarding the horizontal scaling up the module through spontaneous adoption.
The statement is 100 percent true.IFS is the regular practice of most of the farmer as to survive day to days life. Only is the thing that we have to use their ITKs scientifically by introducing HYV crops, animals, mechanising ,etc
Sir, IFS is the solutions for rain-fed agriculture it is true, it is my experiment findings also On the vertical diversification front, there is a very good scope for improving the returns to the farmers through value addition, while through horizontal diversification there is possibility for adoption of varied agricultural activities viz.,field crops as a Inter crops / mixed crops in the initial years of establishment of horticultural crops, dairying, apiary, fishery , poultry etc., both under newly started farming situations or established farming systems. The horticultural based IFS model unit established in dry land by me during the year 2013-14 at UHS, Bagalkot Main Campus with involving horticultural crops as main components and sub components as field crops, forest crops. Subsidiary enterprises like Dairy, Poultry as a animal components and other activities like Beekeeping and Azolla farming. overall net profit of Rs.2.0 lakh has been realised from IFS, Model unit in last three consecutive drought years. Its shows that farmers can with stand the droughts in climate change situations by adopting diversified activities in dryland areas.
Thank you very much , Dr. Biradar . Your experimentation proves that IFS are optimal solution for dryland situations . I am looking for such answer . Can you elaborate component wise B:C ratio ? Regards .
IFS is good optioned for high income from rein-fed condition furthermore attention for new innovation to conserve moisture in soils and demonstrate different combination of crops practices in farmers fields.

Synergistic blending of crops, horticulture, dairy, fisheries, poultry, agroforestry, bee keeping etc. could be viable option to provide regular income and at site employment to small land holder, decreasing cultivation cost through multiple use of resources and providing much needed resilience for predicted climate change scenario where rainfed ecosystem is more vulnerable. Contemporarily farmers should cover their risk through adoption of crop insurance.
