Why we need to look at indexing of a Journal while publishing an article or selecting an appropriate journal?
Many a times, there are good journals but are not indexed in scopus or web of science?
Whats the role of scopus and web of science as a part of indexing for the journal?
What kind of indexing is said to be a standard one? Is it Scopus, web of science, google scholar or any other?
For Two major causes: First, journals indexed in multiple (major) databases offer you wide spread of your paper and easy recognition and citation by others; second, some institutions and universities recommend their employees to publish in journals with special characteristics (including indexing) in order to get an academic promotion.
Indexing is vital to the success f both the writer of the article and those who will use it. If a reader does not know whether or not an article is valuable to him/her he/she is likely to dismiss it as not useful. While good scholarship demands thorough research, the writer is too often hampered by a tendency to overlook a piece rather than read it if it is not indexed appropriately. Which indexing is better? I mean if the indexing is scopus, then will the journal reach many readers?
Which indexing, that is largely depends on your field, in medicine MedLine is always preferred. But in general, Scopus and web of science are the largest in approximately all fields. You should also check with colleagues in your field for further information.
