My new results show a very clear increase of SOD2 protein levels in muscle tissue. So, I thought that it could be due to an increase of oxidation, that is, an increase of TCA cycle that increases oxidative phosphorylation.
So I have checked citrate synthase activity (fisrt enzyme of TCA cycle) but its activity is not increased.
Moreover, I have checked OXPHOS proteins by WB but there are no changes in the levels of any protein.
My question is: it is possible to have oxidative phosphorylation increased (all the electron chain working more), more ROS that needs more SOD2 antioxidant enzyme but without an increased TCA cycle?
I am not an expert on mitochondria metabolism and I would apreciate any comments or suggestions.
