Various fluorochromes such as CMA3 and DAPI are used in chromosome banding. Base-specific fluorochromes such as CMA3 (GC) and DAPI (AT) are also used to distinguish heterochromatic segments that are apparently homogeneous with standard Giemsa C-banding.
