Current texts on qualitative research identify the role the researcher's context, assumptions, and interpretive frameworks in the design of a qualitative research project (e.g., Creswell & Poth, 2018). How do you see the role (positive or negative) of a theology as a framework within a qualitative research project?

We developed a qualitative technique for use with biblical and related texts from the same time period. We derived the cognitive components of "compassion" using a search procedure, and analyzed the changing meaning and use of compassion through time. Hi Kelvin,
Naomi Quinn considered her thirty years of ethnographic research on marriage in the U.S. She concluded that she explored three different components of the interviews in describing interviewer's perspectives: lines of reasoning, key words, and metaphors (Quinn 2005). These match up with Aristotle's three components of rhetoric: logos, pathos, and ethos. I think that effective use of theology as a framework for qualitative research would be most effective if it could incorporate these there aspects.
I think I agree in part with Ivo Carneiro de Sousa
inasmuchas it is important to consider specific theologies as possible frameworks, not theology in general. All research is carried out from a philosophical perspective which has its own assumptions and beliefs.
Peter, I think your answer may be moving towards the intent of my question. Namely, if contemporary practice is to name a researcher's philosophical perspective, how is a spiritual/religious frame of reference (aka theology) viewed by rhe academy?
