I understand that generally in caustic ingestion, upper GI endoscopy should be done within 24 hours. But I also know that interventions that may induce vomiting, like sticking an NG tube down the esophagus, are contraindicated. So how is sticking an endoscope down the esophagus any different? Does it have something to do with the use of sedation in endoscopy?
