Sometimes in analysing data the results are not significant at 95% confidence level but if you reduced it to 90% Confidence level they become significant. Can a scientist change this at will or what are the guidelines to decide on what confidence level to use? This matter is important because some people and journals seem to have problems accepting studies where findings are found not to be statistically significant.
