That's a question that has long moved me. It has to do with the cultural tradition, but also with the differently valued role of the beard for male attractiveness. Men and women can have different opinions on this.
Beard growing is part of faith and part of tribal culture in our part of the world. Some youth grow bread as a part of their fashion following scheme by growing beard in order to copy their favorite celebrities. Most liberal and educated woman are reluctant to allow their husband to grow beard. However almost all religious oriented woman insist on keeping beard. Most men with beard take good care of their beard by cleaning and using oil and other stuff to give a healthy and fresh look.
Very interesting question. In Arabic countries, a beard is a symbol of respect and beauty. In old Arabic culture, it was a symbol of respected men, whether a younger or older man. These days, this meaning becomes limited in some age categories. For Arabian women, still, a lot of them love a man with a well-designed beard.
i agree with hassane that many religions require their men to grow beard, and some men looks handsome in beard so that's why men having beard are more. but now shave /beard both depend on men's appearance in which he looks more handsome.
I agree with Hassan's opinion completely. But, I think that the beard was a symbol of respect and beauty in most of the ancient cultures and religions. The most powerful kings, Caesars, Heroes, prophets, scientists, artists, poets, thinkers and emperors were bearded . I think that the shaving is an inward habit not only on Arabic culture but I think it is a new habit in the European culture as well.
In my opinion, the cosmetics companies played a vital role in spreading (the shaving culture).
Dear Hassane Lgaz, and Tahir Iqbal, thank you for your comments. I suppose that this was similar in other cultures of the ancient period, for instance with the old Greeks, but I have not really proven knowledge. Only historians with special knowledge can help here. Hair in general has a relation to sexual attractiveness. I makes men more "male" and women more "female" attractive, but is also a moment of fashion. I hope we get further answers from expers.
Thank you for your answer, it could be that shaving in that time was more difficult than today. But not to own the ability to get a full beard was rather a disappointment for the respected person. I know that shaving in the ancient time had a ritual meaning, worldwide. The barber was responsible for shaving for many centuries. He's rarely shaving in Europe anymore.
I am a (dry) shaver, and get often a hint of my nearest person that I am unshaved or sufficient shaved. I shave myself reluctantly, it costs much time, I don't see not very good anymore, and think: In the coffin box it is for some people important that they have are shaved and brushed teeth and well-kept fingernails, combed hair - befoe dying. But sometimes I am sceptical.
But I know: to bear a beard is much more time-consuming.
Every beard needs care, and of course you have to be careful when eating if you have a full beard that nothing gets stuck. ik repeat: An attractive beard needs care. - How do you think about this?

I thank you very much for your answer. In earlier times as I was a hopeful young man sometimes I had such feeling also that a beard increases attractiveness. But in my surrounding male friends were without beard.
But for my further life this question was'nt a decisive factor.
I am thankful that you mentioned the cultural factor. In 19th century also in Germany and other countries in Europa there was it quite normal to have a beard as a man of esteem. I have no precise knowledge how this cultural factor changed.
In my country men wear a bear when they are young, but when they get older they shave. Some bald men wear a beard, and I think this is so to address the lack of hair on their head.
