I am working on different nanocomposite for supercapacitor electrodes. But I am confused with the edlc and symmetric supercapacitor. I am unable to clarify whether edlc means both electrodes of carbon and symmetric mean the same materials. so can we consider symmetric supercapacitor as edlc?
In EDLC, only carbon-based (AC, CNT, Graphene, porous graphene) materials were used, whereas in pseudocapacitors metal oxides, sulfides, and polymers are used.
A symmetric supercapacitor means the use of the same electrode material in cathode and anode.

EDLC means electrical double-layer capacitance. In the EDLC capacitors, carbon materials are often as the electrode materials.
As for the symmetric supercapacitor, both electrodes are made of the same materials, which could be carbon materials or pseudocapacitive materials, or their hybrids.
