There are two most popular methods for colorimetric analysis i.e. spectrometer data and image analysis using a scanner. For example, in order to study the color intensity of films, I have measured the absorbance using UV Vis spectrometer and optical density using image analysis by scanning the films in a high-resolution scanner. But I am not getting the same results from the methods. Does the geometry of both the measurement methods contribute to this difference in the result? Can we use the terms "optical density" and "absorbance" interchangeably?

Kindly help me understand the difference in both the techniques and provide relevant references.
