I did one analysis at https://doi.org/10.3197/jps.2020.4.2.17 specifically focusing on disasters. More widely, for sustainability and population related agendas:
The continuous increase in population has become one of the huge problems that the peoples of the world suffer from, and human consumption patterns have repercussions on the environment, whose effects are manifested in soil degradation, water and air pollution, and loss of biodiversity as a result of the random increase in population. How does population growth affect the environment? The greater the population, the greater their need for resources, which means that people resort to deforestation and large areas of agricultural land, which increases the rate of carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere, and the rate of oxygen decreases.
The increase in global population directly tie to environmental degradation as a result of increase in activities in the environment and emissions of greenhouse gases. The increase in population directly results in decrease in wildlife, decrease in natural resources and evacuation of virgins lands.
Increase in global population leads to:
De forestation: increase in population result in falling of tress for construction and opening of new areas for habitation. The increase in agriculture activities to produce food for the growing population also results in deforestation. Consequently, the habitats for wildlife decreases.
Environmental pollution is a direct outcome of population increases. There is a greater energy generation to meet the energy need and industrial activities to produce for the satisfaction of the growing population. The greater human activities is equivalent to the amount of waste generated in the environment, therefore improper disposition of this waste contributes enormously to environmental degradation.
The processes of energy generation and material conversion increase will result in emissions of greenhouse gases and carbon dioxide.
Depletion of mineral resources: Daily material needs results in exploration of the natural resources which which directly impact thier source. The irreplaceable nature of this resources leads to degradation of the environment.
Water scarcity is one of the impact of population growth on the environment. The continuous utilization of water resources may result in runoff of aquifers and results in drying out of lakes and rivers.
The increase in global population impact on environmental degradation has a linear relationship and therefore calls for attention. Creativity is needed to alter their relationship and to bring about sustainability.
