Some research has been done regarding this question:
Experimental investigations of the use of cartilage in tympanic membrane reconstruction. Zahnert T, Hüttenbrink KB, Mürbe D, Bornitz M. Am J Otol. 2000 May;21(3):322-8.
[Acoustic and mechanical properties of tympanic membrane transplants]. Zahnert T, Bornitz M, Hüttenbrink KB. Laryngorhinootologie. 1997 Dec;76(12):717-23. German.
To be complete tympanosclerosis does influence hearing (certain frequencies up to 2-3 dB, yet not within detectable amount with common audiometry as steps of 5 dB are tested.
Still the question will remain IF the amount of hearing loss with cartilage usage is of clinal relevance as it is done for other reasons.
