You ask the following: Impact of parenting styles on child development. Regarding this issue, I would suggest you to be acquainted with the seminal work by D. Baumrind (1989) and M. Hoffman (1970). What follows. elaborates a little on styles parents use to socialize their children, namely of how to deal with theIr children's misdeeds and their impact on the moral development of their children.
Martin Hoffman was able to conceptualize three styles parents use to deal with theIr children's misdeeds and their impact on the moral development of their children: Power assertion; withdrawal of love; and inductive practices.
Power assertion is the case when parents use their physical or psychological power over resources (e.g., money or toys) to deal with their children's misdeeds (e.g.. " Bob, if you hurt your sister, then you will not get toys anymore". Withdrawal of love is the case when parents resort to a kind of blackmail to deal with their children's misdeeds (e.g., "Mary, if you hurt your brother, then dad will not love you anymore"). Inductive practices is the case when parents point to their children the negative effects of their misdeeds on others (e.g., " Caroline, if you hurt your brother, then he may feel bad and unhappy")
It was found that, contrary to inductive practices, which favor the appearance of an autonomous morality, both power assertion and withdrawal of love tend to lead to a heteronomous morality.
In this light parent take all the necessary care with their hopes & aspiration for the promising line for their children for the growth of the development . Some years back I have expressed my views in this regard which I submit herewith
Our parents deserves our honor & respect for giving us life itself . Beyond this they almost always made countless sacrifices as they cared for & nurtured us through our infancy & childhood provided us with the necessities of life & nursed us through physical illnesses & the emotional stresses of growing up. Arrival of child ,parents consider a blessing – a joy & pleasure for the life. Initial stage for the parents it becomes pleasure ,joy & inner inspiring way for the future becoming a light for the parents.
