Nano particles are being extensively used in cosmetics, tooth pastes and various other daily use items. A considerable portion of these nano particles ultimately find their way into water bodies. Is there any studied information of how nano particles affect biotic community of aquatic ecosystem ?

Several studies show that the equilibrium of ecosystems could be threatened in the event of contamination by nanoparticles. They also show that even if a single link were to be contaminated, it could, via the food chain, contaminate all species at a higher trophic rank, possibly including humans. The articles clearly demonstrates the impact of different metal nano particles on aquatic biota right from planktons to higher organisms. This definitely poses the risk of nano particles getting travelled up the food chain.
