Do you feel that is the single most important piece of information about a journal? There have been many debates - on RG and elsewhere - whether IF is still the best and most helpful calculation for a journal - or is it something else? Personally, I am uncertain.
Joseph C Lee I really don't believe that IF should be considered a concrete parameter in any case. Articles with open access got more citations, and so are the open-access journals.
I believe it's time to develop a more convenient and universally accepted journal ranking system for all journals. Moreover, one cant apply the same rule to various disciplines. The engineering sciences usually get more publishing and more IF than arts/computing/commerce/maths. Each discipline should recognize its matrice and propose a system where one can justify the IF, equivalently.
