Hello everybody! I'm working with PCR-DGGE to study gut microbiota composition, and I want to know if it's possible to analyze DGGE gel with ImageJ. Some suggestions about softwares that you use in this case???

I have heard that ImageJ can be used to pick out bands on a DGGE gel and do a limited amount of analysis, but I have not used it myself. I have used BioNumerics for this purpose and it works very nicely. However, ImageJ is free, so I would try that first and maybe if it cannot do what you want, then look for a different option. You can get a 4-week free trial of BioNumerics which might give you enough time to do all of your analysis.

I haven't used ImageJ. What we use in our group to analyze DGGE images is Phoretix 1D. It works very well for us. You can a trial version from TotalLab
Hello Cristina,
We use ImageJ for quantification of PCR amplicons with mass ladders.
However for DGGE of gut microbes , GelcomparII software is used, which is free for a month or so.
