which is better RT-PCR both cost and performance wise? How is ECO RT-PCR from Illumina? worried about its performance. Please give your valuable suggestions..
Hi! I use the Eco Real Time PCR platform for several months and I really like it. The results are repeatable, the software is very user friendly and gives you a good interpretation of the results from the reaction. For now I perform only TaqMan for detecting pathogenic bacterial and viral agents, but soon I will use Eco for HRM analysis for detecting SNPs and mutations in human genes associated with infertility and I am sure that will works good. For now I have no difficulties to work with Eco and my personal opinion is it definitely worth the cost.
What type of analysis you want to perform with Eco?
I would suggest Applied Biosystems 7500/7500 Fast Real-Time PCR as first choice and Roche light cycler 480 as second one. ABI is easy user friendly and easy to work with. Not sure about Illumina ECo though.
Roche has LC Nano which compares in size and cost with Eco, performances are great, tube-strip format, with pre-optimized reagents and HRM capability to state only a few things. ABI 7500 fast or not and LC 480 are bigger systems in comparison to Eco, more advanced and probably 3 times more expensive.
Eco has HRM capability too. You can perform 48 reactions (LC nano- 36) in one program. Also according to the brochures Eco is faster. May be the real advantage is a little difference in size and I am really not sure about the price, because the price of Eco is really good for such machine.
Price is same as of Eco, with attractive reagent/plastic packages. "Fast" is another topic, more complex than a machine. A fast instrument with improper reagents means no benefit. Also fast cycling without uniformity is a mess. Moreover, fast reactions are not always desirable, depending on what you do. Last but not least, take into consideration the time you spend to prepare the next run - therefore you may consider pre-optimized mixes, and calculate the total time from experiment set-up to results. Nano is extremely silent and can be operated from a memory stick.
