Is there a decline for the water surface of floodplain respect to main flow of the channel? I just need to know how is the shape of water surface for cross-section of the river.
There will be a decline in the water surface of the floodplain with respect to the main flow channel during the rising limb (water moving from the channel into the floodplain), and then some time after the peak, the floodplain water surface will be above the main flow channel (water flowing from the floodplain to the main channel). The shape of the surface will depend on the rate of change of the water level in the main channel, the lateral flow velocity (and how this varies with water depth, as well as across the floodplain), and the history of the change in the water level.
I'm really do not know how can I thank you, please if you know any paper gives details more just send it, my study on impact flexible plant on flow resistance.
ON A FLOODPLAIN WITH NO VEGETATION AND SURFACE RETENTION THE ABOVE WOULD BE FINE. BUT THE EXACT NATURE OF THE PHENOMENON MUST TAKE INTO CONSIDERATION THE ASPECTS MENTIONED ABOVE.
