Hi this is Ayoob, doing certification in Chartered accountancy, and MBA in finance and currently doing internship in audit & assurance firm.
So, this is my 2nd last semester of MBA and in which we I have to do research thesis phase-1, for this I am in need of to choose topic.
whether I should choose topic from International Standard of Audit (ISA) or from International Accounting Standards(IAS)/International Financial Reporting Standards(IFRS).
Please advise me in this regard.

I will suggest you go on topic that has to do with "financial management".
Reason been that, doing certificate in Chartered accountancy, and MBA in finance and your current internship in audit & assurance firm has to do with the combination of finance and management.

You can say yes to this topic but I've seen a lot of research on it. but do you have a problem, what problem do you want to solve in this audit area?

Actually, I couldn't find problem still, but the reason is to chose audit or accounting area is because I'm doing Chartered accountancy in Pakistan and after completing this we will be by practice work as auditor or accountant.
Along this I'm also doing MBA in finance which is also related with accounting.
So, the reason was to stuck with my study area and do research in audit or accouning, that's why I'm taking suggestion that what topic I should select for my research.

While it is almost a decade since I left academia, for many years I ran a seminar on choosing a research topic which was compulsory for all master’s students in finance when they enrolled in a research paper. The approach I recommended, which seemed to work, was to approach it as a process, which when applied, would allow students to generate a topic for themselves. I found that students who generated their own topics were much happier with the research process and had better outcomes.
The most important factor in a successful research outcome is the topic you choose. Choosing the topic which is right for you will turn what can become a seemingly endless ordeal into a fruitful learning experience.
The first stage in the process is to narrow down the general area in which you want to do your research. You suggest International Standards of Audit (ISA) or International Accounting Standards (IAS)/International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). If you have two areas and you cannot choose between, it is best to let the process of narrowing down your topic dictate which of the two areas you want to research as it is the topic you choose rather than the general area which is most important for your success. I note you are doing your MBA in finance. I would suggest it is easier to do research in finance than in accounting standards as data is readily available for finance topics, but is difficult and time consuming to generate for accounting standards topics. Choosing a topic like valuation can link in well with your subsequent accounting career.
Assuming you choose accounting standards as you general area, you should source a list of the top 50 or so accounting journals and select, say, 10 of them which publish the most articles on accounting standards. You go to an internet site which provides abstracts for the chosen journals and look at the abstracts of all papers published in the last 5 or more years. Quickly go through them and take a note of any which you think might be the basis for a suitable topic and this will form your long list of possible topics.
The research you are doing is of necessity limited in scope and depth. Generally, you will be looking for a paper which you can duplicate using data from a different time period or a different country. There are a number of factors which will dictate which topics get on your short list. The first is your attitude to study and research. If you are simply going through the process to get a tick in a box and want to achieve that with the least bother, you will be looking for topics where a simple methodology can be used and data is easily and quickly obtainable, and only involves your existing skill set. If, however, you seek to get the most out of the educational experience provided by learning to research, you should choose a topic which will stretch your abilities. In this case you will be willing to learn new methodologies and tackle tasks which make you uncomfortable, but not so uncomfortable that you doubt your ability to achieve them. Your ability to push your boundaries will be dependent on the level and expertise of the research supervision which is available. If you cannot rely on a supervisor with the necessary expertise, and time availability, to get you out of difficulties you should be cautious.
There are a number of factors you need to consider in narrowing down your choice of topic. Research is about finding an answer to a question which has not been answered. The most important is to select a topic where the paper will be of value if the answer to your research hypothesis is either yes or no. For example, the finding in the US based research applies in Pakistan, or it doesn’t. If you test whether companies choice of options available under an accounting standard predict stock returns, when you find it doesn’t you have a problem unless there is a paper somewhere which says it does, or there is a very good reason to assume it does. Avoid blue sky topics!
The next factor is practicality. Can the work be done with the number of hours you are expected to spend on the project? Is the data readily available, or can it be collected in a reasonable time? Data collection and preparation are dead hours in which you learn little, it is better to spend the available time on other aspects of the project. Do you have the software necessary to do the analysis required? If not can you use an alternative methodology which uses the resources you have available. Do you understand the methodology being used, or can you learn it? What help is available if you get into difficulties?
After you have done this you should have a short list of possible topics. Expect it to be a very short list. If you have 3 to 5 you will be doing well. You should then discuss them with a supervisor to find out about unforeseen pitfalls. If you have good supervision available, they should be able to steer you onto a viable topic and methodology at this point. If not, expect unforeseen difficulties and don’t be too ambitious. If your shortlist is zero, start the process again and it is likely to be more successful a second time.

Cordial saludo, me parece que puede revisar y fusionar los dos temas.. por ejemplo... podrías revisar
1- La formación de los auditores (Normas Internacionales de Control de Calidad) que están en las Firmas de auditoria) para la practica de aseguramiento de la Información financiera ( Normas Internacionales de auditoría y NIIF ) ( lo puedes dejar en un sector específico o en las normas que se aplican para las PYMES ( pequeñas y medianas empresas) para limitar mas el tema.
En fín...la pregunta abordaría si están preparados los auditores cuando revisan la aplicación correcta de las NIIF en las PYMES?... bueno es un ejemplo.-... pero tocaría acortar mas un poco el tema....

Read a few academic papers that interest you. If you like your classes, maybe look at something your professors write. There is normally a section at the end that discusses topics for further investigation. There might be something there that interests you.
As research thesis I would suggest dual currency effects (IAS 21) or inflation effects (IAS 29) on financial statements. Developing countries` major problem is foreign trade deficits. This deficit is closed by either non-visible items (tourism/transportation) and/or borrowing. Borrowing on the other hand puts more pressures on local interest rates and on local currency`s parity against hard currencies. This in turn leads high inflation and currency devaluations and disparity between financial statements prepared on local currencies and hard currencies. Companies may be showing profits and paying taxes in local currency terms and showing losses and losing their equities in terms of hard currency and inflation adjusted financial statements.
you can work on environmental accounting. New area and good for publication purpose.
Please consider the following for the choice of research topic:
1. Your interest is very important.
2. What is happening around the area of your interest currently.
3. The perceived problem you want to solve
4. Availability of supervisor along your line of interest.
Your interest in the field of research is very vital and it should be literally same for your supervisor.
Hello Ayoob, first of all, I congratulate you on the specialty you are studying, and I want to tell you the following, hoping it will be useful for your decision. The three topics that you propose are of vital importance because they are correlated, which leads me to suppose that you must have mastery of the three topics 1,2,3 in the following order: 1- International Accounting Standards, 2- International Financial Reporting Standards and 3- International Auditing Standards. What I can suggest is that if you are collaborating with an audit and assurance firm, there you can identify what would be the main problem experienced by its associates to the firm?
Dear Muhammed, you can choose either of them, depending on what your research focus is. However, in choosing a research topic. ensure you have an idea of the existing literature and designe the objectives of the research. This will help you understand exactly how you want to approach the study and the variables you intend to use.

Do the literature review first. Then look for your interest area. Focus on that area, which is contemporary in your subject.
