Can someone share how to verify the genuity of a conference call? I got an invitation to this conference, but having doubts because there are too many fake conference calls nowadays.
This conference “9th Edition of innovations In FOOD SCIENCE AND HUMAN NUTRITION (IFHN-2024)” https://foodscience-nutrition.org shows a lot of dubious features. For example the ‘warning’ that only 70 seats are left… Furthermore:
-The organization behind is Innovinc https://innovinc.org and looking at the current conferences they use the ‘trick’ that many predatory conference ‘organizers’ use: organizing multiple conferences at the same place within a short period of time
-Innovinc used to be (?) a publisher and is mentioned in the Beall’s list (https://beallslist.net ).
-They have been discussed (not that positive) here on RG before https://www.researchgate.net/post/World_Congress_on_CANCER_RESEARCH_AND_THERAPY_WCCRT_fake_or_real and https://www.researchgate.net/post/Is_Dr_Robert_Martin_geologist_real_or_fake
-It is in the meantime a long list of replies but numerous replies mention Innovinc here https://www.researchgate.net/post/Dubious-conference-invitations-Just-spam-or-do-these-meetings-actually-take-place
-Contact info (5201 Great America Pkwy #320, Santa Clara, CA 95054, United States) is nothing more than a virtual one. In other words, why hide true origin?
It would not surprise me if the event will actually take place but doubt very much the quality of the conference. Looking at the photos of the attendees https://foodscience-nutrition.org I expect that this is the number of people you can expect (somewhere round 25 max.). Personally, I would avoid this one.
Best regards.
PS. I see that one of the (claimed) speakers is a member of RG https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Lucien-Harthoorn you might try to contact him and see if he is really going to attend the meeting. I notice that the photos of the speakers https://foodscience-nutrition.org/speakers are all scrawled from the internet (mostly LinkedIn).
My colleague and I were invited to this conference, although we do not work in the field of food science or nutrition at all. I did my small investigation, and the conference website looks really suspicious, with typos, and the company "hosting" doesn't seem to be reliable.
Innovinc has a lot of other conferences, with websites looking exactly the same and always the same "conference fees". This makes no sense. I agree with what Rob Keller mentioned, too.
To be sure, I contacted many of the "speakers" on the ResearchGate, as I was afraid that their data was used without their agreement. Three of them answered so far and confirmed that they either did not agree to have their data used, or did submit an abstract and are now disturbed by unwanted e-mail/calls from the organisers.
I wouldn't be surprised if an actual conference would happen, but then with 25 participants at a hotel somewhere... I would recommend staying away from it!!
I was invited but it's not my field so quite suspicious. Also very short notice - only 2 months. Plus the talks look totally random with no common theme. looks pretty dodgy.
