If in a give study I have lets say 5 questions that I address quanti and 5 quali, and I prefer to use the term research questions (qualitative research questions and quantitative research questions) instead of hypothesis (kind of "does this.... affect that?"), do you have some authors that I can cite besides Creswell?!
I don't think there is any reason to cite an issue as abstract as stating your research goals in the form of either questions or hypotheses. In fact, almost all of the citations that people have offered are general discussions of either mixed methods or research methods overall, so those aren't really going to answer your specific question.

@Jorge. In teaching research I advise my students to concentrate on a single research question, which they must cleverly divide into subquestions so that when taken together, they add up to the research question. Some subquestions may demand qualitative subanswers, some may demand quantitative subanswers.

You can't use hypothesis for substitute questios, because hypothesis are answers for these research questions and the using of hypothesis is indicate for quantitative methods.
@Samuel It is a sub-question, (it lies under the research question) and is not a 'substitute question'.
Yes, a sub-question and a hypothesis are equivalent. As Michael points out below, a hypothesis is a "head on the block" statement.
Yes, some knee-jerking research supervisors immediately equate the use of the word hypothesis with qual work. However if you examine its linguistic roots, it means under the thesis, i.e., is supporting the thesis-theme, and with a sentence of explanation segues nicely into a mixed research design.
In some technical sense, hypotheses involve an "If...then..." format where something about the state of an independent variable affects something about the state of a dependent variable. And I agree with Ian that they are usually stated as sub-questions under broader questions that guide the research as a whole.
In contrast, qualitative research seldom involves the kind of causal assumptions that go with hypotheses.
My earlier objection was to the idea that there would any gain from having citations for this sort of thing, but it could be that Jorge has does indeed have an obnoxious supervisor.
Research questions and hypothesis are NOT the same thing. Research questions are about how or to what extent something happens, without expressing an opinion. Hypothesis is about "this is what we thinlk will happen."
In fact, a given paper may contain both research questions and hypotheses.
