For the first part, you could pose some ethical dilemmas, and ask the respondents their views. For the second part you could pose some questions about English and French in every day use.

I would want to know a little more about your research and the way(s) in which you conceive the question before suggesting possible questions. What do you mean by "influence" - are you looking into the ways religion or language may place some students at a disadvantage within educational systems, or the converse, the way language and religion may be used to support hegemonic relationships within the education system? (Your question could be used to investigate at least those two areas and possibly others.) If so, I would suggest you look at the work of George Dei at OISE/Univ. of Toronto, particularly Power, Knowledge, and Anti-Racism Education, and The Poetics of Anti-Racism. I'm sure you will get some great ideas about possible research questions from reading Dei's work.

You might want to take a look, then, at the book Religious Literacy by Stephen Prothero, which has a good discussion in the early pages of the book about the role of religion in U.S. public education. While he does not write from the perspective of hegemony, I think you would easily be able to make that connection from his description.
