Recent studies show that stable gaseous nanobubbles can be formed in liquids that form at the interface with solid substrates. But, if the nanobubble is formed inside a crack or cavity, can it be even more stable than a surface nanobubble since two solid surfaces surround it?

In my understanding, nanobubbles are generally stable due to pinning on the substrate. Pinning is possible both on hydrophilic and hydrophobic surfaces due to a contact angle hysteresis phenomenon. Does it mean that the pressure in nanobubble formed on a hydrophilic surface can be substantially larger than the pressure in the surrounding liquid phase? In other words, nanobubbles can prop otherwise closed hydrophilic cracks in compression. Doesn’t it contradict a stability condition for nanobubbles on a hydrophilic surface?
