After Covid-19 pandemic use of Pulse oximeters has increased. Some Pulse Oximeters also provide the value of Perfusion Index or PI which is an indication of the pulse strength at the sensor site.

Normal PI values are said to range from 0.02% for very weak pulse to 20% for extremely strong pulse.

If a machine shows PI of > 21%, what does it mean ?

What are the conditions where one gets PI value >20% ?

Is it Physiological/Non-physiological/Machine Malfunction ?
