For example, if I divide the maximum number of Euros given as bribe by a citizen in a county by the population (in thousands) of that county, do I get my data stripped of the effect of population? I am thinking that the higher the population, the higher the bribe because of the higher competition on services, so this ratio should get more objective. Is that so? Any thoughts on dividing something by population in general?
