If I am given an unknown material, how can I calculate/analyse its stacking fault energy?

The literature available and text books do not seem to explain which method(s) were used to establish the Stacking Fault Energies (SFE) of common materials. I am wondering if there is any standard test or analysis that can be done to any given material to estimate its SFE.
