Also can staph aureus bacteria appear pink on Manitol salt agar plates? Or it definitely appears yellow? Has anyone isolated staph aureus with alpha hemolytic characteristics?
Resistance to vancomycin involves the alteration to the terminal amino acid residues of the NAM/NAG-peptide subunits, under normal conditions, D-alanyl-D-alanine, to which vancomycin binds while resistance to Methecillin antibiotics is by hydrolysis of the β-lactam ring of the antibiotic by resistant bacterial enzymes, rendering the antibiotic ineffective. Thus, staph bacteria resistant to vancomycin may not be resistant to methecillin unless they have developed multi drug resistance mechanisms.
Hello, resistance to vancomycin not mean resistance to Methecillin. Each strain of bacteria shuld be tested for sensitivity to antibiotics for more pure picture. Even if bacteria resistant to betta lactamase it doesn't mean resistance to all types of antibiotics with betta lactamase inside.
