From time to time I am involved in reviewing processes and grading of high potential applicants for research funding and scholarships. It is often hard to say who contributed to which extent, and who is only on the paper for the sake of being supported rather than having contributed at all. This is getting even harder to judge as time is passing by and some of the authors changing places. How about specifying the relative contribution of each author and co-author right on the front page or at least at the end of the paper on the day of publication. The ego of some superiors may still lead to over-evaluation of their contribution, but by clearing the personal contribution it will strengthen the scientific impact of the main authors, I think. What do you think, would it change something or not?
