These algal samples were collected from a freshwater lake in the state of Haryana. I need help from the experts in the field for identification of some of the phytoplanktons.
Here are some more identifications suggestions to consider:
1. If there is no mucilage around the cells (hard to tell in the picture), than instead of Nephrocytium it could be a Scenedesmus sp.
3. It could be Stephanodiscus (a centric diatom), but it doesn't look ornamented enough to be an algae
4. Cyanobacteria- Anabaena
5. Diatom- Fragilaria brevistriata (Pseudostaurosira brevistriata). Acolony in girdle view
7. Maybe Microspora
9. Diatom- Aulacoseira. If you can still look at the samples under the microscope, look at the cell walls (e.g. are they straight, rigid) and how they cells connect.
First of all try to significantly improve the quality of your micro photos! Try to achieve the maximum magnification for the native slides, while for the diatoms use the specific method of cleaning and preparing of permanent slides which can be observed in high magnification! Only than you (or anybody else) can be more precise in the proper identification of the species.
I agree with Jackson Achankunju's answer except for 6 and 7. I think its Johannesbaptistia sp ( maybe J. pellucida). Some of these aren't clear to identify.
hello Ridhi it is too difficult to identify these algae within you images you need more clear & accurate ones and you should have both lateral and valve view for each diatoms
