I am conduction BTEX sampling on-board vehicles. I am using coconut charcoal 100/50 mg solvent extraction tubes to be analysed using GC-MS. There are different analytical methods which report different acceptable limits of breakthrough. I wanted to find out if there is a specific limit considered acceptable for use in academic writings.

I think you can do this yourself to gain confidence in your system and your methods. Put several new charcoal tubes downstream ( in line) of your sample tube that you have dosed with a "realistic" quantity of BTEX. Be sure that you have purged it of all solvent. When do you observe breakthrough from the known sample into a fresh collector, as determined by your analysis? Does a third tube in line also collect BTEX or never does?
