My samples dissolve in water. Dry sectioning does not work on them. Therefore, I need a different liquid to section them onto. I do not know if ethanol or any other liquid would be helpful.
Also, do I have to use cryo microtomy? If it is going to help, Young's modulus of the samples range between 1 and 4 GPa.

I am just guessing, but if you want to maintain biocompatibility ethanol would be a mistake, but DMSO might suit.

When I immersed it in ethanol, I did not see any obvious change or damage on it.
I have been advised by a colleague that surface tension is the key to keep the specimens flat and it is only provided by water. It sinks in ethanol.
Do you think DMSO can provide a good surface tension and inertness so that the specimens can be transferred onto copper grids in flat morphology and without any structural change?
DMSO might work, it has a surface tension (in air) in between water and ethanol.
