I need more explanation on this, what is the difference between "H &E" and "H+E". In mathematics "and " is refers to as "plus". Ok if it is called Haematoxylin processing, who coined the name. Is it an appropriate name? if yes than other stains will also following, eg. Alcan blue processing etc.
I fully aggree with David. I am also not aware that there exist a formal standardization. Also to my knowledge this is only a abreviation for Haematoxylin and eosin staining.
Haemotoxylin and Eosin staining is a bit ambiguous as a term without going into correct abreviations. For the Haemotoxylin mix there are several different Mordants such iron which is used in mayers haemotoxylin mix, the mordant is needed for haemotoxylin to ionically bind to nucleic acids. We can also build up the stain by short short exposures of tissue (progressive staining) or over stain and washing out with acid ethanol(regressive staining). Eosin counterstain method is more conserved with standard exposure and gives a generalised stain for non nuclear regions of the cells. It really depends on the counterstain and the lab in question. For some reason H&E gets better search engine results, but its probably best to refer to exact protocol being used as we can adapt protocols to optimize to the tissue in question.
Am not aware of the so called new name " H+E" for Haematoxylin and Eosin stains, all articles both in local and international journals carry H&E as an abbreviation for haemtoxylin eosin stains.
