if you are not using \documentclass[a4paper,12pt]{amsart} then you can do this manually as:

\begin{abstarct}

{{\it keywords} xx; yy; zz}}

\end{abstract}

The script presented below, works with no problem.

You can try it out!

\begin{abstract} We will discuss the most important subject. \end{abstract} \begin{IEEEkeywords} Broad band networks, quality of service, WDM. \end{IEEEkeywords}

1st step: define new command:

\providecommand{\keywords}[1]{\textbf{\textit{Keywords:}} #1}

2nd step: define your keywords:

\keywords{geomorphology; R; programming; statistics; spatial analysis; statistical analysis; Pacific Ocean;}

A simple example would be:

\documentclass{article}

\special{papersize=210mm,297mm}

\title{My paper}

\providecommand{\keywords}[1]{\textbf{\textit{Keywords:}} #1}
