I want to do a review on beauty. Therefore I would like to ask my colleagues from different countries of the world if they would like to express their view on who is considered a beautiful woman in their part of the world.
Beauty is both external (physical) and internal (views, values etc.).
India has a lot of beautiful women. We have had many Miss Universe and Miss Worlds. But if one goes by societies generalizations one cannot ignore the definition of beauty in the matrimonial columns of the news papers seeking brides - tall, fair, slim and so on....
Every women is beautiful in her own way. Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder.
Actually, I am convinced that beauty is NOT in the eye of the beholder, but an objective entity. This is my conclusion after looking at research from the Univ. of Exeter and the myriad of rules that guide artists, designers, and architects. So how is it that people each like different paintings or women? Upbringing and social pressures. It is our preferences that are subjective, not beauty itself. So, coming up with a "recipe" for what makes a woman beautiful is fraught with lots of problems, mainly that social views generally cloud out any logic, even when we want to be so. Beauty is far bigger than we often give it credit for. So one can be quite happy enjoying ONE aspect or perspective of beauty, another is busy enjoying a completely different one. I have not swallowed the evolution pill and am a theist. Science is not a nicely separated topic from other areas of existence, so I do not believe that it is wrong to bring God into the picture. Beauty is the glory of God in his creation. When we rebelled against him sin entered the picture which is like a cancer. Things began to deteriorate, one being beauty. Therefore, all women have beauty in them, but not at even amounts. Now I am entering dangerous territory as many women have picked up their Uzzies and tracking me. Dare I say, it is likely these very women who lack the most beauty due to the "indescriminate" effect of sin in the world. May I add, let's not confuse beauty with value. They are not synonymous, particularly in the eyes of a God of grace. Yes, put down the Uzzies, thank you!
Dear friends, Thank you for your answers. However, I wanted to know specific characteristics that are considered an asset in each race or culture in order to consider someone beautiful and not just cliches like "beauty is in the eye of the beholder". Eg: In Japan, Taiwan and Corea milky-white skin is considered beautiful, hence women use whitening creams. In Brasil large buttocks are considered beautiful. etc.
I think people have different taste and preference therefore there is no true definition of beauty. But I think you would find it interesting to know that in some Asian cultures, having a pale white skin is considered beautiful. In my country, the Philippines, having a pale skin is associated with being on the high level in society.
A possible routing for your search you can find in the book of Nacy Etcoff , The survival of the pretiest . Another source is the Book of Mario Livio , The Golden Ratio: The Story of PHI , the World 's Most Astonishing Number. Livio brings an interesting discussion of how organisms are organized in terms in the golden ratio. To find beautiful faces near you I suggest the use of Dr Marquardt`s masks at the following link: http://www.beautyanalysis.com/.
Please sorry for my typing errors. Typing on the phone is really a challenge for me.
For me beauty is a sign that evolution found to express adaptiveness of a particular form of live to another. This idea can be found at the references I mentioned, and departing from this point you can go to an number of fields that let you consider human beauty: culture, feminism, etc. There is something objective and universal in beauty and its origin is rooted in evolution.
Here is the ranking of the most beautiful women in Peru: http://listas.20minutos.es/lista/las-80-mujeres-mas-hermosas-de-peru-99400/
The "curvier" and "sexier" woman, are higher in the list. Having pale skin is not seen as being beautiful-- having a tan is. If you check out the ranking, you'll notice that "white women" are higher on the ranking. There still is social discrimination in that sense. In 2012 there was a study made by Universidad la Pacífico, stating that in Peru there is an 83 % employment discrimination made by physical appearance. Even those considered most attractive may obtain remuneration up to 17 % higher than those who are not beautiful.
Totally agree with Dr Oluwafemi. Beauty is not the facial appearance. It is applied both for men and women but not for women. For me, honesty, pure,..etc heart who has no expectation from the society, is the beauty of men and women. BTW, in our country, you can check the Bollywood Actors and actress, also Miss Universe and Miss World.....Susmita Sen, Natalie Portman, Penolope Cruz...etc..
It changes with time. In the 1950s Marilyn Monroe — curvatious — was the epitome of beauty. Then only 10 years later (the British) Twiggy — super skinny — was the rage. I never got excited about the toothpick look, my sense of beauty was weened on Marilyn. (I wish.)
I can speak only for my own observations, but I would say that today a beauty has a somewhat hourglass figure (breasts 80-95, waist 70-75, hips 85-90). 165-170 cm tall. 55-65 kg. Brown bodied long hair, Real eyebrows — not just painted on, and of course not Bresnev type. I prefer more of the girl next door look over stark features. But the stark features (higher cheek bones, greater contrasts) do arrest one’s attention and turn heads more easily.
A confident (NOT cocky or arrogant) attitude goes a long way in making a girl look pretty. When she is sure of herself, when she KNOWS that she is beautiful (even if she is not a knock-out) she captures a man's attention and he takes note that she is a woman of value! That may not address your question though. :-)
I think a good indicator for what is considered beautiful would be to look at 50 (or so) advertisements from each of several cultures around the world. That would be quite a job, but it would give you a very good picture of what you are looking for. No?
Beauty of a woman I believe is related to the acquaintance of the surrounding. Whatever is near and close and intimate is considered beautiful. It is the relationship of all what is considered human and its relationship with nature. That is why you consider your mother beautiful, your neighbour is beautiful as long as there is this mutual consent with the surrounding. As long as you get used to what is close to you, one can feel the beauty of what is deep inside. Features in general are relative. Touching feelings and close encounters are all considered factors of beauty.
I developed a mathematical model of beauty or wholeness conceived by Christopher Alexander in the masterful work The Nature of Order. This model can act a beautimeter, with which one can understand (1) why a design is beautiful, and (2) how much beautiful the design is.
