I remember the times when people were more connected. What drove us away? Progress, technology, desire for a better life, materiality, selfishness or something else?
A little bit of everything. Human desire to "megalomania" resulted in current day progress. Interestingly we are closer to people thousands of miles away but still feel isolation & loneliness. Freakish isn't it. Anyway we are not close to people who are actually living with us. Kind if a virtual scenerio
A colossal leap in technology - which, in particular, has led to the emergence of new opportunities of entertainment in spending free time. And, of course, self-obsession!
It is: "Materiality - based technology progress". If technology progress is based on ethics, then we shall become more connected and more philanthropy.
Modernization and all associated components are the reasons for erosion of social cohesion. A military strategist Edward Luttwak once said: "Power is mass multiplied by cohesion."
I remember the times when people were more connected. What drove us away? Progress, technology, materiality, selfishness or something else?
In my personal opinion, those points you'd mentioned play a role in influencing the less connected we are nowadays. E.g. during the era of lesser development or lesser technology, we human beings were less mobile or more connected because we couldn't travel afar & stayed in the same place especially at night etc.
In order to test those factors hypothesized, perhaps we can conduct a research / study with experimental & control groups to evaluate the result findings.
We are experiencing a serious disconnect from family and friends mainly because of technological advancement especially with the use of internet and mobile phones.....
Family values seem to have an indirect proportion with the increasing personal wealth and availability of modern technologies. We all seem to have more inclination towards accumulating more and more wealth.
I think that it is the time to understand that life is not just a race; there is much more than that.
I live in the wilderness The Sun shines on the trees and through the leaves Warmth envelopes my sanctuary Until darkness approaches like a fog The darkness is pregnant with sounds I hear animals snarling while bones are breaking Whimpers turn into blood curdling gargles As the darkness renders invisibility among predators And the darkness engenders vulnerability among prey I desperately want to help but there is a darkness barricade The darkness follows everything The darkness swallows everything
I can hear planes crash And the passengers scream From within the darkness I can only see muzzle flash And the barrel's steam Creating hardship The darkness converts men to shouts of agony and rage The darkness blinds us from the writing on the page The darkness makes us believe That it's our reprieve
Darkness has us in it's sight When we choose to live in light Even when we do what is right Darkness takes flight Becoming our plight We try to fight back with futility The darkness' bite has more utility We are engulfed by negativity As we lose all connectivity And our mouths begin to foam When the darkness is our home
Education one of these reasons, my life is an example I traveled abroad to complete my PhD thesis, and I haven't seen my family for more than two months I really miss all of them.
Modren Technology and life system made us apart it became a vishoius Cycle the human connectios became less and less
You wake up you go to work you return home tired you want to rest you want peace and quiet you want fix your problems you don’t yime for any thing else
I would say technology to a greater extent. Excess of anything is bad and technology has devastated or say bought a halt to the natural self and activities of the human beings.
Surprisingly the communication systems, whatsoever, lead to an increased virtual and decreased physical connections. We should not wait for someone to take the initiative for a more cordial relationship, or increased connectivity among us and our family, friends or relatives.
1 — children leaving parents in my opinion is about children breaking ties with family and that is more serious issue to understand. This would leave parents with a lot of mixed emotions like concern, sadness, angst, frustration, worry and some others which are situation specific and may need professional help to solve and get past. Here again, I know that communication, honesty and an open mind are the keys and can repair relationships to great extents.
2 — The other is about children moving nationally or internationally to realise their dreams of education, exploration, marriage, love, carrier and other reasons like this. In this case parents are very supportive and even proud to see children grow as they attach a lot of their happiness to the happiness of their children. This also gives parents a chance to see other worlds that they probably couldn't while they were raising their children.
Technology enables faster communication. Larger choice of content on TV, computers, information is available through technology. Previously information and opinions were changed by direct conversation and socializing. Now, we create the habits of the technology and we become strangers to one another ...
There are only a few people who are lucky to work in their hometowns. Most of us are compelled to move out because of our jobs. Still, we can make it compulsory to make a reunion at least once or twice a year. We should remain connected with our roots. Plants without roots are destined to dry sooner or later.
Before people could not satisfy the requirements independently. Now the person is capable to satisfy the requirements without the aid of other people. It is promoted by technicalization and informatization of life.
Slavoljub - In the earlier societies, people were having a simple life devoid of modern transportation, modern education and also information and communication technologies (ICTs). Division of labor was very simple and there were informal relations and people were living a collective life.
With the advent of modern science and technology, industrialization, urbanization and globalization, simple life changed into complex life. The result is the extreme division of labor, formal and impersonal or virtual relations, individualism and materialistic orientation.
People these days are wanting to be more and more independent. The evolution of technologies including the Internet and cell phones (as well as social media) has further isolated people into living inside their own shells and seldom interacting with others such as neighbors which was the case in the past. Nowadays many people don't even know who their neighbors are and prefer to shy away from them.
Side effect of globalization. While people know now induviduals from polar regions, but not aware what is happening next door. Need to address how we use the technology. Regards
People are becoming extremely busy day by day, non-compromising to gain something right now. Fierce competitions stared everywhere. Epidemic of ego problems! People spend more time, remember and thank (apparently) more others than their near and dear ones – for what purpose – I don’t know!
Every advancement related to technology (internet, social media etc) and material (computers, mobiles, cars etc) is making people self centred. The growing competition and ego problems are responsible for driving human beings away from eachother. People live in a virtual life of technology and are not able to interact. They should use technology for benefits of the society. Also, they should behave in a responsible manner as far as family and friends are concerned.
