I need to get a very long rod-shaped bacteria for a personal project of mine.
I have access to a microbiology lab, glucose, peptone, yeast extract, an incubator, and an autoclave. I don't know where I can find long rod-shaped bacteria or how to select for them in a mixed culture.
you can go for Lactobacillus from yogurt or curd, or Actinomyces from soil.. You can also try using Nocardia to be recovered again from soil...
I'll try making media using milk instead of glucose and isolate either from my mouth or yogurt. thanks!
You can go for Lactobacilus from milk / Curd / yoghurt by using MRS agar
Take one gram of garden soil and make dry powder and dissolve in 100 ml saline and serially dilute it till 10 power 7 and heat at 75 Deg C for 30 min and from 6 and 7 th dilution take 0.1 ml and spread on nutrient agar plates and incubate at 35-40 deg C for 48hrs. u will get long to short rods with spores which can be used for ur project.
