It is a trans-esterification with methanolic solution of potassium hydroxide at room temperature.
Hello, if your GC has FID detector so use steps below.
1. Weight 5g of metallic Na with small particals add in to 100ml of pure methanol.
2. Weight 50ul or 50mg of oil sample in 1.5ml eppendorf tube add 400ul hexane and 200ul solution from step one.
Mix well use upper layer for direct injection to GC- FID.
If you need just fatty acid composition you can use slit 1:40 or other for better chromatogram.
