I am working on the project to reduce TDH and maintain power factor using D-STATCOM' using MATLAB SIMULINK and willing to learn more about it. I need little bit of guidance. I have already achieved power factor correction using DSTATCOM and now trying to reduce THD in the system. Kindly guide me that which factor exactly affects the reduction of harmonics in the electrical system. Kindly suggest me where am i going wrong in this model.

at first you should know how harmonics will produce in a system. generally 2 important event cause to produce harmonics. first one is when you have capacitive or inductive loads in the circuit, it cause to create an angle between voltage and current and reduce power factor and increase harmonics. second, when using diode bridge rectifier or Thyristor in an circuit it will change the shape of output currents and voltages and this cause to produce harmonics in many ranges.

I read about the production of harmonics in the circuit and my goal is to reduce it now using DSTATCOM. I had tried different variations in hysteresis current control circuit to deal with it and got better performance too but couldnt get a satisfactory result. Kindly suggest me some effective way to deal with it.

Are you asking about analog filters that I used in the control algorithm?
If yes then Yes I tried that too. Infact I tried many combinations but couldnt find the suitable when. One passive filter I used which reduced the THD but simultaneously reduced the pf of the system as well.
I researched alot and pretty sure that I need to work more on the pulse generation unit, but unable to retrieve a proper solution.

I am here aiming the THD reduction in source current of the system.
Just add a filter containing a capacitor in parallel across the source. Mind you you have to connect a resistance of very small value in series with the capacitor. After that just add an inductor in series before the bridge rectifier..
In case of high power applications, usually we prefer 12- pules insteat of 6=pulse converters to cancel many of ,harmonics in the system, beside small filter if necessary.

From my humble perspective, I believe it has something to do with your algorithm. Which circuit topology are you using for the STATCOM? Do you need a harmonics extraction algorithm to make it work? If yes, is the harmonics extraction process correct? Have the reference current / voltage signal been generated correctly? Besides that, a small output filter is helpful.
