I need an example of using element solid185 with enrichment to explore the propagation of cracks and by use extended finite element method....thanks for ur efforts
I do not know which software you would like to use in your analysis. I am familiar with ANSYS and ABAQUS. In this software triangular , quadrilateral, hexhahedral elements are available for 2-d problem. Also, 8-noded or 20-noded cubical element or tetrahedral element for 3-d problem.
I do not have an example problem solved by using solid185 element for simulating the propagation of cracks. These details you will get in manual. I suggest you to read ANSYS manual. all the best..
There are many Ansys tutorials online and also youtube videos. I think you can use fracture energy based models available in ansys workbench/APDL. you can use CZM/VCCT techniques to simulate crack propagation through materials.
As far as I know, up to date there is no other way in ansys to physically see the concrete cracks beside using the SOLID65 element (legacy Element) with CONC material model. However, now ANSYS provides a model that efficiently simulates the gradual failure of concrete "The micro-plane model" with newer CPT215 element that supports the use of current technology elements SOLID18x. In addition to the technology guide you can check the you tube link below (In Russian language). They are comparing the results of the old method using SOLID65 "CONC. model" with the new "micro-plane model" with current technology element SOLID185.
