I have synthesized a Core-shell composite and performed surfaxe XPS. Can I get XPS peak corresponding to core material?
Dear Ankur,
this depends on the thickness, the structure and the coverage of your shell material.
XPS provides a maximum analysis depth of ~10 nm, so the shell thickness should be less than this to receive signals from the underlying material.
On the other hand, a porous shell structure or incomplete surface coverage on the core material could also result in signals from the core.
Best regards,
Robert
Hi
Keep in mind XPS is a surface analysis, you can perform etching that may remove about 3 nm of the surface to go deeper inside the sample but still, so my recomendation is to include XRD and EDS analysis
