A basic biodiversity index may be calculated by dividing species richness by species evenness. Bring it outside! To estimate the richness of creatures, use this methods in your home or a nearby park. Place a quadrat in a random location outside.
Follow these steps for further information:
1. Add the populations of the individual species to get N.
2. Calculate N (N - 1)
3. Determine n (n - 1) for each species, where n is the number of individuals in the species.
4. Add all of the values from step 3 together.
5. Subtract the total from step 4 by the amount from step 2.
