So far, I have carried out quantitative studies. My stats 'guru' was a great quantitative study expert. For my Masters and PhD, I carried out quantitative research. But I feel that a mixed method will be more suitable for my next research. How can I overcome this fear of qualitative research? Please share your experience, especially if you also came from a 'quanti' background.
Dear Miranda, I think your apprehension will disappear quickly when you start to discover how interesting and exciting "involvement" in the qualitative findings, in their analysis and discussion. It is very motivating we can find a categorical order in the tangle start of many data of qualitative nature; born of chaos order to explain the phenomena in study.

Thanks, Vitaly and Paula for your advice. I will get to work soon, when I have cleared my marking of practical reports. Hopefully my bosses have not lined up a series of jobs that I must do. And haven't also decided on a research that I must do for the college. Happy new year, may we continue to enjoy our work and contribute meaning fully to our community.

I am doing my PhD now and I am essentially doing "quanti" stuff, but my advisers have started to teach me to shift towards "quali" part of it. It is quite hard and really confusing in many cases because I still do not see the forest behind trees. However, each time I speak with them, I feel myself more and more comfortable on talking about broader class of problems... From my point of view, "quali" part connects all "quanti" parts together in a single and comprehensive work. As for my future, I am planning to stay in touch with my scientific advisers + actively communicate with my colleagues who have bigger experience than I do.
I think the big difference between qualitative and quantitative methods in inductive reasoning is that the first (qualitative) requires. In my master's and PhD studies was a key step to integrate the inductive logic in my thinking and understanding of phenomena. Look up articles on the topic and share experiences are favorable strategies. But the "work" of analyzing persistent and lengthy data will bring great learning.
