Does colour and size of silver nanoparticles depend on each other? I used to get a peak at 430-450nm in UV spectra, but now I am getting a peak at 423nm. Sometimes I get double peaks (one small @ 423 and other @ 436 nm). What is the reason for this?

The dependence of optical absorption maxima on metal nanoparticles is well-known. It was shown that sols of metals revealed a different behavior compared to ones of non-metals. The sols of metals feature in selectivity of light absorption depending on the dispersion. The "absorption-wavelength" curves demonstrate maxima which characterized by different intensities and positions depending on particle size. A "blue" shift is observed with the decrease of particles size, i.e. their dispersion gets higher. As an example you can read an attached article regarding Au particles. All the best!
The absorption spectrum (position and intensity) depends on size, shape and ambient conditions. When you are seeing two peaks the reason could be non spherical nanoparticles like cubes or nanorods, the shape usually is associated to the synthesis method. Besides in your sample you might have a size distribution with at least two predominant sizes, and if the particles are spherical then you are seeing information of at least nanoparticles with two sizes. I have done a lot of calculations about absorption spectra of silver nanoparticles. You can take a look at some of my papers.
