in the research for my thesis i had to calculate all the alpha's for the questionnaires and scales that i used. however from one of the questionnaires only one of questions is used in the analysis. is there a way to get the reliability for that question?
i am not in the positition to do re-test reliability.

You can't get the alpha since this always requires multiple items, what you can do is try to validate the item with another measure, that is, if you want to know if this item measures what you think it measures the scores should correlate highly with similar items (for example the ones in the full scale or external items measuring the same thing). As far as I know you can't calculate reliability of a single item without retesting though.
